Summary
Edwina is a professionally Qualified Social Worker with over fifteen years' experience of working with vulnerable children and families in both the community and Care System. Skilled in carrying out a range of assessments and providing well-written reports, Edwina has a high level of interpersonal and communication skills, using comprehensive knowledge and training to build on existing skills and improve practice. Edwina is a dedicated and dependable individual with strengths in emotional intelligence and evaluating the needs of service users. Edwina seeks out opportunities to gain deeper understanding and direct experience. As a Court Advocate for parents involved in Care Proceedings, Edwina has developed an enhanced appreciation of the impact of intergenerational trauma and the significance of systemic practices when working with families. Edwina recognizes the importance of using a multi-disciplinary approach to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people.
Edwina has extensive experience working with and advocating for young people in the foster care system in Ireland. In her role as a Guardian ad Litem, Edwina has working knowledge of Child Care legislation, namely the Child Care Act 1991 and the Guardianship of Infants Act 1964. In accordance with the Guardianship of Infants Act 1964, Edwina is experienced in dealing with complex child protection and family law matters by conducting court ordered assessments and preparing 'Voice of the Child' Reports.
Edwina participates in ongoing professional development, with specialist training in the areas of attachment and developmental trauma. Edwina has extensive experience working with foster families in a supportive and supervisory capacity and is skilled at carrying out assessments in accordance with Section 36 of the Child Care Act. Edwina has in-depth knowledge of Children First: National Guidelines and the National Standards for Foster Care, 2003, and vast experience of applying these to practice. Edwina has a high level of analytical skills and extensive experience in using different assessment frameworks to carry out well-rounded, comprehensive, solution-focused assessments. Edwina is equipped with a high degree of interviewing skills and well-practiced in one-to-one work with young people of all ages.
