Summary

Terry Fox is a qualified Social Worker and has been working as an Independent Guardian Ad Litem since April 2013. Prior to this Terry worked in the area of Child Protection in Dublin South East and the area of Intellectual Disability for ten year. Terry has additional training in attachment and mediation, achieving a certificate in ICI (Infant Care Index). Terry is a registered Mediator with the MII (Mediators Institute of Ireland).

Over the last seven years Terry has been appointed by District Courts throughout the country to children in the care of Tusla and children involved in family law proceedings. Terry has also been appointed by the High Court to children in secure care in Ireland and in overseas units. Terry has also been appointed by the High Court to Wards of Court. Terry completes Section 32 and Section 47 assessments in respect of private family law proceedings.

Terry has extensive experience working with children, vulnerable young people from diverse family backgrounds with varying levels of need. Terry has a combination of over seventeen years academic and professional experience in the area of Child Protection and Welfare. In addition to this Terry has over two years’ experience working within the area of intellectual and physical disabilities. While working in the area of child protection, Terry volunteered as an activities co-ordinator within an adult disability residential service.

Terry is registered with CORU and Terry has full Garda Clearance. Terry is committed to engaging in ongoing professional development and clinical supervision. Terry hopes to resume her PhD in early course.

Further Education and Training

Terry engages in ongoing training and development in Ireland and the UK with a focus on training in area of developmental trauma and attachment. Terry also engages in ongoing legal training, new child protection procedures and legislation, as well as developing her skills in the area of direct work with children.

2013–Present | Independent Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) in District Courts and the High Court. Completing Section 32 and 47 reports. Acting as an advocate for parents involved in childcare proceedings and an advocate for children involved in criminal proceedings in the Children’s Court

Areas of Special Interest

Attachment and Family Contact – Terry has completed formal training in the area of attachment and she was awarded a certificate in Infant CARE index reliability testing and is qualified to complete assessments in this area. Terry’s Masters’ Dissertation focused on family contact for children in long-term foster care and she has a keen interest in assessing and formulating contact schedules for children involved in private and public family law matters.

Working with child and adults with a disability – Terry has vast experience working with children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, as well as adults with acquired brain injuries and their families.

Assessing need and Care Planning for children with multicultural backgrounds and children from the Travelling Community and other ethnic minorities- Terry has extensive experience and competence in this area.

Terry has four children and resides in Dublin.
